He was a 28 year old married sailor living in New Orleans when he enlisted as Corporal in Company D, 15th Louisiana Infantry on August 6, 1861 at Amite City, LA. He was promoted to Sergeant on September 1, 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg..

The rest of the War

He was treated in Richmond, VA, and reported back to his Regiment on March 17, 1863. He transferred to the Navy on September 28, 1863.
