Before Sharpsburg

A 19 year old laborer in New Orleans, he enlisted in Company C, 7th Louisiana Infantry on June 7, 1861 at Camp Moore, LA. On enlistment he was described as born in Ireland, age 17 (or 19) years, height 5 ft. 5 1/2 in., hair auburn, eyes dark, complexion dark.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action on 9 September 1862 near Poolesville, MD.

The rest of the War

He was sent to the Provost Marshal, Washington DC on September 10 from Clarksburg, MD. He was absent from his unit to at least February 1863, "supposed prisoner in the hands of the enemy". The Company roll for January and February 1864 lists him as "absent, not known where".
