He was a 20 year old farmer in South Port, LA when he enlisted in Company A, First Louisiana Volunteers on April 28, 1861 at New Orleans.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was absent in Hospital at Richmond, VA from wounds received at Sharpsburg, until at least February 1863. The roll for May and June 1863 lists him as a deserter, but later records show he was "discharged on account of wounds Recd. June 25, 1862" [sic].
