He enlisted in Company I, 5th Louisiana Infantry on May 22, 1861 in New Orleans. He was promoted from 1st Corporal to First Sergeant on July 27, 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the arm in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was absent without leave after May 1863 and declared a deserter.
