Before Sharpsburg
He was a 35 year old painter in New Orleans when he enlisted in the Bienville Rifles - Company B, 8th Louisiana Infantry - on June 23, 1861 at Camp Moore, LA. He was described with complexion dark, hair dark, eyes hazel, height 5 ft. 8 1/2 in.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
By October 1862 he had been paroled, and was with his unit at Winchester in camp. He was again captured, at Petersburg, VA on April 2, 1865. He sent to Hart's Island, NY Harbor from City Point, VA on April 7, and released on Oath of Allegiance on June 14, 1865.
