Before Sharpsburg
He was a 25 year old clerk in New Orleans when he enlisted in the 2nd Company, Washington Artillery on May 26, 1861 in New Orleans.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to Sergeant on August 1, 1863. In January and February 1864 he was listed as absent on duty with Maj. Eshleman, but was otherwise present with his Company the entire War. He was paroled May 31, 1865 at Montgomery, AL.
