He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Sergeant on August 1, 1863. In January and February 1864 he was listed as absent on duty with Maj. Eshleman, but was otherwise present with his Company the entire War. He was paroled May 31, 1865 at Montgomery, AL.
