Before Sharpsburg
He was 20 years old and living in New Orleans when he enlisted in Company I, First Louisiana Infantry on April 25, 1861 in New Orleans, and was appointed Sergeant. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant, Company G (date not given), and First Lieutenant on April 28, 1862. He was slightly wounded on June 25, 1862 at the battle of Seven Pines, VA.

He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He died of wounds on November 29, 1862 in Winchester, VA.
