Before Sharpsburg

He first enlisted for service in the Louisiana Greys on May 7, 1861 in New Orleans as Corporal. He transferred on June 4, 1861 at Camp Moore, LA to Company A (or K), 5th Louisiana Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to the US Army General Hospital No. 5, Frederick, MD on October 15, 1862, paroled at Fort McHenry on the 18th, then sent to Fortress Monroe, VA. He was declared exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on November 10th. He was absent, wounded, in Richmond to at least February 1863, but with his unit in March. He was reported missing after action at Gettysburg, PA on July 2, 1863, and unaccounted for thereafter.
