Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted in Company G, 10th Louisiana Infantry on July 22, 1861 at Camp Moore, LA. He was elected Jr. 2nd Lieutenant on August 4, 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in three places and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He lost his right arm to amputation as a result of one of the wounds. He was sent to Fort McHenry, MD on October 20th, and paroled there. He was forwarded to Fortress Monroe, VA , and exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on November 10, 1862. At War's end he was paroled in Lynchburg, VA on April 14, 1865.
