Before Sharpsburg

He was a 21 year old clerk in New Orleans when he enlisted in that city in Company G, First Louisiana Infantry on May 2, 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was sent to Ft. McHenry, MD on October 14, 1862, paroled there, then exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on November 10, 1862. He was absent, wounded, to at least January 1863, but back with his Company by April. He was promoted to First Sergeant to date from May 2, 1863. He was left with the wounded at Gettysburg, PA and captured there on July 5, 1863. He was a admitted to De Camp General Hospital, David's Island, NY. He was exchanged at City Point, VA on September 16, 1863. He was absent on furlough into December 1863. He was killed in action May 12, 1864 at Spotsylvania Court House.
