Before Sharpsburg

He was a 22 year old farmer living in Tooley when he enlisted in Dreux's First Battalion Volunteer Infantry on April 30, 1861 at Camp Moore, LA. He (re)enlisted in Company I, 9th Louisiana Infantry in April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was captured in action Spottsylvania Courthouse on May 12, 1864. He was sent to Point Lookout, MD from Belle Plains, VA on May 19 and transferred to Elmira, NY on July 28, 1864. He was paroled at Elmira on Oct. 11, 1864 and exchanged at Venus Point, Savannah River, on Nov. 15, 1864. He was again captured, near Petersburg, VA on March 25, 1865 and sent to Pt. Lookout. He was released on an Oath of Allegiance on June 28, 1865, and transportation was furnished to Natchez, MS.
