Before Antietam
A carpenter from Arctic, RI, he enlisted on 7 August 1861 in Company C, 4th Rhode Island Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
The rest of the War
He was wounded again, in action at Fredericksburg, VA on 13 December 1862, then promoted to Corporal. He was detailed to Brigade Headquarters as a carpenter until March 1864, and again from October 1864 to February 1865. He was transferred (consolidated) into Company B, 7th Rhode Island Infantry on 21 October 1864. He mustered out on 9 June 1865.
