From Slatersville, he enlisted on 10 September 1861 in Company G, 4th Rhode Island Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Corporal on 20 September 1862. He reenlisted on 5 January 1864, and was slightly wounded at Petersburg, VA on 30 July 1864. He was transferred (consolidated) into Company B, 7th Rhode Island Infantry on 21 October 1864. He mustered out on 13 July 1865.
