Before Antietam
From Burrillville, he enlisted on 7 August 1861 in Company D, 4th Rhode Island Infantry. Promoted from Private to Sergeant on 25 September, and reduced again on the 29th. He was reinstated as First Sergeant on 14 October 1861.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
The rest of the War
He died of his wounds on 25 September 1862 at age 23.
