Before Antietam
From Scituate, he enlisted on 9 September 1861 in Company C, 4th Rhode Island Infantry. Promoted to Corporal on 13 November 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the shoulder in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam
The rest of the War
Absent on furlough through October 1862. Admitted to Balfour General Hospital, Portsmouth, VA on 22 January 1864. On 26 October 1864 he was sent to Rhode Island to muster out of service, to date from 15 October 1864.
