From Providence, he enlisted on 9 September 1861 in Company C, 4th Rhode Island Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to Sergeant to date from 17 September 1862. He was sent to hospital in Frederick, MD and discharged on a surgeon's certificate at Washington, DC on 6 January 1863.
