He was captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was paroled and sent to Alexandria, VA in November 1864. He reenlisted on 5 February 1864, and transferred (consolidated) into Company B, 7th Rhode Island Infantry on 21 October 1864. He mustered out on 13 July 1865.
