Before Antietam

From Woonsocket, he enlisted on 10 September 1861 in Company E, 4th Rhode Island Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He reenlisted on 5 January 1864. In May 1864 he was detailed as orderly for the post Quartermaster. He was wounded again, in the left thigh, on 30 July 1864 at Petersburg, VA. He was transferred (consolidated) into Company B, 7th Rhode Island Infantry on 21 October 1864. He mustered out on 13 July 1865.
