From Valley Falls, he enlisted on 14 September 1861 in Company I, 4th Rhode Island Infantry at age 17.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was absent in hospital until January 1863. He was detailed to the Quartermaster Department from June to September 1864, and mustered out with his Company on 15 October 1864.

After the War

He was living in Providence at the 1870 US Census.
