Before Antietam
From Woonsocket, he enlisted on 10 September 1861 in Company E, 4th Rhode Island Infantry. He was promoted from Corporal to Sergeant on 12 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
The rest of the War
He was discharged on a surgeon's certificate at Providence on 5 June 1863.
