Before Antietam
From Westerly, he enlisted on 17 September 1861 in Company F, 4th Rhode Island Infantry and mustered as First Sergeant.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
The rest of the War
He was discharged on 2 January 1863 on a surgeon's certificate at Providence.
After the War
He was appointed to the Providence Police Department on 1 April 1865, and was Sergeant for the last 5 years of his career, until just before his death from cancer at age 44.
