Before Antietam

He enlisted in Company H, 9th New York Infantry at age 29 on 4 May 1861, and mustered as First Sergeant. He was reduced to the ranks on 10 June 1861, and promoted again to Sergeant on 1 October 1861. He was wounded on action on 19 April 1862 (probably at South Mills, NC).

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He mustered out with his Company on 20 May 1863.
