He enlisted as a 19 year old student in Company K, 30th Virginia Infantry on 20 May 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action in the leg on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to Corporal to date from 14 October 1862, and returned from furlough on 8 February 1863. He was with his Company at least through September 1864.
After the War
He lived in Hampstead, VA and was a teacher and merchant. He married twice (Sarah Ann Billingsley and Lilly Lewis Jones) and had 15 children,
