A salesman from Lowell, he enlisted in Company A, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry at age 32 on 11 May 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the arm in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

Returned to duty 25 December 1862, and was promoted to Corporal on 14 January 1863. Wounded in abdomen 3 May 1863 at Chancellorsville, VA, but returned on 17 May. Killed in action 3 July 1863 at Gettysburg, PA.
