Before Antietam

A bootmaker in Medway, he enlisted in Company E, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry at age 18 on 11 May 1861. Wounded in the hand in action 9 August 1862 at Cedar Mountain; returned to duty in September.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the heel in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was in hospitals in Frederick, MD, York, PA, then the convalescent camp in Baltimore, MD. Returned to duty 1 March 1864. Mustered out 28 May 1864.

After the War

He married in 1869, but "became insane" and was confined in the Worcester Asylum where he died in 1871, not quite 30 years old.
