Before Antietam

A bootmaker in Medway, he enlisted in Company E, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry at age 23 in May 1861. Wounded in hand in action at Winchester, VA on 25 May 1862. Wounded at Cedar Mountain, VA on 9 August 1862, but not disabled.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the arm in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

Discharged for disability at Harrisburg, PA on 8 April 1863.
