A box maker in Franklin, he enlisted in Company E, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry at age 24 on 28 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the hand in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

Returned to duty in August 1863. Mustered out on 28 May 1864.
