Before Antietam

A tanner in Lowell, he enlisted in Company E, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry at age 18 on 13 October 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the leg in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

Returned to duty 8 December 1862. Wounded in the thigh in action at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863. Returned to duty on 7 March 1864 and promoted to Corporal on 1 July. Mustered out on 14 October 1864.

After the War

He died in Lowell in 1867 of consumption (tuberculosis) "contracted in the service."
