A brakeman from Hubbardstown, he enlisted as Corporal in Company F, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry at age 24 on 8 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the shoulder in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

Promoted Sergeant 24 September 1862. Returned to duty 19 February 1863. Reenlisted. Detailed as Armorer on 28 April 1864. Captured in action 8 November 1864 with no further record.
