He enlisted in Company A, and mustered in on 21 August 1861. He was promoted to Corporal on 3 March 1862 and Sergeant on 1 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured in action at the Wilderness on 5 May 1864 and held at Andersonville. He was released 5 March 1865 and discharged on 3 April 1865.

After the War

He lived in Carlisle, PA.
