In 1860 he was a 20 year old farm hand on his father's place in Brady Township, Huntingdon County, PA. He mustered as a Private in Company H, 125th Pennsylvania Infantry on 14 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
