He was killed in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

His picture from a photograph kindly shared by Randy Peterson of Nome, ND; he offered the original image for sale on ebay. There's a pencilled note on the back that "Edison" [sic] was "Laura Collester's brother." She was Laura Rowena Chapman Collester (1853-1932).
