He was killed in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

His service basics from the State of Ohio,1 which lists him as Edson C. Chatman. Details from family genealogists and the US Census of 1860. His gravesite is on Findagrave. His picture from a photograph kindly shared by Randy Peterson of Nome, ND; he offered the original image for sale on ebay. There's a pencilled note on the back that "Edison" [sic] was "Laura Collester's brother." She was Laura Rowena Chapman Collester (1853-1932).
