He had served as Corporal in Company A, 8th Ohio (3 months) in April and May 1861. He enlisted in Company A, 8th Ohio Infantry (3 years) as Sergeant at age 29 on 28 May 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He died at the US 2nd Corps Hospital 4 July 1863 from wounds received at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July.
