He enlisted in Company A, 8th Ohio Infantry at age 19 on 28 May 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, in action at Fredericksburg, VA on 13 December 1862. He was discharged 4 April 1863 on a Surgeon's Certificate of disability.

After the War

He was listed as living in Tiffin, OH at the time of the Regimental Reunion at Gettysburg in September 1887.
