He enlisted in Company D, 8th Ohio Infantry at age 19 on 3 June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

Transferred to the 6th US Cavalry on 22 October 1862.

After the War

He married 23 Oct 1866 in Kalamazoo, MI and was in Michigan by the birth of his first child in 1867. He was a retired farmer at his death in Michigan in 1917.
