Discharged to enlist in Company A, 15th US Infantry on 4 November 1862. He is noted as having lost his left leg below the knee during the War (place not stated), perhaps 9 April 1865.

After the War

He lived the last 10 years of his life in the National Home for Disabled Veterans in Elizabeth City, VA.
