Before Antietam
He enlisted in Company H, 8th Ohio Infantry at age 23 as Corporal on 24 June 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
The rest of the War
He deserted 1 December 1862, but returned on 8 March 1863. Appointed Sergeant, date not given. Mustered out with his Company on 13 July 1864.
After the War
He had lived in Elyria, OH, but was listed as living in Dixon, IL at the time of the Regimental Reunion at Gettysburg in September 1887.
