He enlisted in Company B, 8th Ohio Infantry as Corporal at age 18 on 5 June 1861.
On the Campaign
Two Irishmen are carrying the colors of our regiment today [17 September 1862 at Antietam]. Sergeant Conlon has the battle flag and Corporal Ready the National Colors. By some miracle these two men, whose bravery is conspicuous, escape all injury.
The rest of the War
Discharged 23 September 1862 "by order of the War Department".
