The Roll for July and August 1862 shows him as absent, sick and wounded, in Hospital in Richmond since 29 July 29, 1862. He was promoted to 3rd Corporal on 1 July 1862.

He was reported missing in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg with no later military record.
