Before Sharpsburg

He enrolled as First Lieutenant, Company F, 5th Louisiana Infantry on 9 May 1861, at New Orleans.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was admitted 10 October to No. 5 US Army General Hospital, Frederick, MD, then sent to Fort McHenry, MD on the 13th, paroled and sent to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange. Received at Aikens Landing, VA in 17 October, and declared exchanged there on 10 November. He was captured again, in action at Spottsylvania, VA on 12 May 1864. Received at Fort Delaware, DE from Point Lookout, MD on 25 June. Forwarded to Hilton Head, SC 20 August, to Fort Pulaski, GA on 20 October, and back to Hilton Head on 19 November 1864. He was on the Rolls of Prisoners of War at Hilton Head, SC, 1 January 1865.
