Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted 1 September 1861, at Williamsburg, VA in Company E, 5th Louisiana Infantry. He was a clerk living in New Orleans, age 21, single. He was present on all Rolls to August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was admitted 15 October to No. 5 US Army General Hospital, Frederick, and forwarded to Fort McHenry, MD onn the 18th.He was paroled and sent to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange. Received at Aikens Landing, VA on the 19th and declared exchanged there 10 November 1862. Rolls from November 1862 to June 1863, list him as absent without leave. By August 1863, he was noted as having deserted in November 1862. "Supposed to be in Mobile, Ala." A note says that he deserted to the cavalry.
