Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted 4 May 1861, at New Orleans, in Company I, First Louisiana Volunteer Infantry. He was a clerk living in New Orleans, age 26 when enlisted, and married. Appointed 2nd Corporal on 8 April 1862, and First Corporal by June. Promoted to Jr. 2nd Lieutenant on 1 August 1862, and First Lieutenant, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He had his left leg amputated due to his wound and was found unfit for further service by February 1863, being "disabled for life".
