Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted 23 June 1861, at Camp Moore, LA in Company F, 8th Louisiana Infantry. He was a student in Opelousas, LA, age 21 when enlisted, single. He reenlisted at Camp Carondelet, VA on 13 February 1862, and was appointed First Corporal on 24 April. On the Roll for 30 April to 31 August 1862, he was absent, sick, at General Hospital. He was appointed Sergeant on 8 September 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was admitted 30 September 1862, to the Confederate Hospital, Culpepper, VA. Sent to the General Hospital, place not stated, on 1 October 1862. He was then home on furlough through the rest of 1862. On the Rolls from January to August 1863, he was present, and was promoted to 2nd Sergeant to date from 1 September 1863. He was absent on furlough of indulgence since 22 August and absent without leave in September and October (forfeits pay). He was wounded in action 2 June 1864, possibly at Cold Harbor, VA, and furloughed to Mississippi on 7 June 1864. "Went home on wounded furlough in June 1864. A good soldier".

After the War

He married Ida McKinney on 12 Feb 1875 in Opelousas, St. Landry Parish, LA.
