He enlisted 7 July 1861, at Camp Moore, LA in Company C, 9th Louisiana Infantry. He was a farmer, living in Minden, LA, age 22 when enlisted, single. He was absent, sent to rear, sick in November and December 1861. Re-mustered for the War, 10 February 1862, at Camp Carondelet, VA.

On the Campaign

Initially listed as missing, he was captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg

The rest of the War

Sent for exchange from Fort Delaware, DE to Aikens Landing, VA on 2 October 1862. Declared exchanged there on November 10. Rolls from November 1862 to 31 August 1864, state he was present. Probably wounded at Chancellorsville (1863) and Monacacy (1864). Later recorded as "In Trans. Miss. Dept., without leave."
