He enlisted 19 June 1861, at Camp Moore, LA in Company D, 8th Louisiana Infantry. He was a sailor living in New Orleans, age 26 when enlisted, married. Promoted from Private to Corporal on 15 February 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was absent, recovering from his wound, and sick, to January 1863. He was on detached service, place not given, in November and December 1863. He was on a List of Confederate soldiers remaining in U. S. A. Military Prison, (Libby) Richmond, VA on April 10, 1865.
