Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted 12 March 1862, at Brush Valley, LA in Company H, 9th Louisiana Infantry. He was a farmer in Brush Valley, LA, age 25 when enlisted, married.

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He "went home on furlough", but was soon back with his Company, being recorded as present on Rolls from November 1862 to February 1864. He was captured in action at Strasburg, VA on 12 May 1864, and received at Belle Plains, VA on the 18th. He was held at Point Lookout, MD, then transferred to Elmira, NY on 17 August 1864. He was paroled at Elmira on 9 February 1865, sent to James River, VA, and exchanged there 20 or 21 February. He was on a List of Prisoners of War, Paroled at Lynchburg, VA on 11 April 1865.
After the War
He married Laura V. Riddlehoover (b. 1845) in Bienville Parish on 12 October 1865, and was in Milam, TX at the 1870 Federal Census.
