He was wounded and possibly captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
After Sharpsburg he was on Rolls as absent, wounded and on furlough. By May 1863 he was listed as absent without leave, and by August 1863 as a deserter "last heard from in Avoyelles Parish, La".
