Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted 7 July 1861, at Camp Moore, LA, in Company E, 9th Louisiana Infantry. He was a moulder living in Madison Parish, age 28 when enlisted, single.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was listed as absent, taken prisoner in MD, while nursing the wounded. He was sent to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange from Ft. McHenry, MD on 17 October 1862 and received at Aikens Landing, VA on the 19th. He was exchanged there on 10 November 1862. By December 1862 he was absent without leave, but back with his Company between January and April 1863. He was reported to have deserted at the battle of Frederickburg, VA on 1 May 1863. He was later on a list "of Rebel Prisoners who have reported to these headquarters (Provost Marshal's Office Hdqrs. Military Dist. Wash. D. C.) and had the Oath of Allegiance administered to them, April 29, 1863".
