Before Sharpsburg

He had been a 21 year old clerk in New Orleans, and enlisted 4 June 1862 in Richmond, VA, in the 1st (Dreux's) Louisiana Infantry Battalion. While still in Richmond, he transferred to the 1st Company, Washington Artillery on 14 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He lost an arm and was thereafter absent from his Company. He was dropped from the Rolls by August 1864 by order of Lt. Col. B. F. Eshleman.
