Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted 28 April 1861, in New Orleans, in Company D, First Louisiana Infantry. He gave his occupation as plasterer and age 26 years. In May and June 1862 he was absent, confined in Castle Thunder, Richmond, but returned to his unit.

On the Campaign

He was wounded and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to the No. 5 US Army General Hospital, Frederick, MD on 12 October 1862, and forwarded to Fort McHenry, MD on the 14th. He was paroled and sent to Aiken's Landing, where he was exchanged on 10 November. By June 1863 he was reported as "absent without leave, supposed to be with Gilmore's Cavalry" [sic]. On the Roll dated 1 November 1864, he is listed as "Deserted Jan. 1, 1864", with no further record.
